PortAventura World in Spain has announced a reduction of its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 21.3 percent over the past year through various sustainability initiatives.
Despite the expansion of the resort with a new industrial laundry operation and the new Hotel Marinada, PortAventura World has reduced its emissions, water use and waste.
Across the resort, there has been a 5 percent improvement in water efficiency, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 1,500 residents.
PortAventura's solar installation has also become a key asset since its creation in 2022. With more than 15,000 solar panels, the photovoltaic plant has generated 36.87 GWh since it opened, equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 11,200 households in Spain.

Additionally, an educational exhibit at the solar plant called the Energy Circuit has been created for school visits.
Waste reduction is another key achievement, with the resort reporting 23.2 percent less waste than in 2019, achieved through measures such as a reusable cup system, which has avoided the use of more than 2.3 million disposable containers.
Fernando Aldecoa, managing director of PortAventura World, said: “We are aware that protecting the territory in which we operate means protecting the long-term viability of our project.
"That is why we take on, together with our employees, suppliers and partners, the responsibility of growing while creating value responsibly."
Sustainability efforts at PortAventura
Biodiversity and animal welfare are also part of PortAventura World's sustainability efforts, with the resort now monitoring swallow nests and neutering stray cats to control the local population.
Over the coming years, PortAventura World will work to make its operations more efficient, use less water and reduce its non-renewable energy consumption.
Located close to Barcelona, PortAventura World is one of Europe’s largest family holiday and leisure destinations. Since opening in 1995, it has welcomed more than 100 million visits.
