Majid Al Futtaim has opened a $708 million lifestyle and retail hub called City Centre Al Zahia in Sharjah, UAE.

Majid Al Futtaim is the leading developer of shopping malls, retail and leisure across the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia.

The company has opened its latest lifestyle and retail experience in Sharjah, a city in the UAE, following an investment of AED 2.6 billion ($708 million).

Shireen El Khatib, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Shopping Malls, said City Centre Al Zahia is the only “super-regional mall to be launched in the Middle East and North Africa in the wake of COVID-19”.

“An immersive destination designed to bring people together, the mall is an achievement of hope and innovation in the face of adversity.”

City Centre Al Zahia includes art and cultural experiences, and will also connect to Majid Al Futtaim’s residential community, Al Zahia.

Al Zahia is the result of a strategic partnership between Majid Al Futtaim Properties and Sharjah Asset Management.

The retailtainment attraction will feature arts, social, theatre and sports hubs, as well as professional and educational spaces.

There will also be an arts zone, as well as unique experiences, rides and attractions such as Tom & Jerry Cheese Town, Magic Planet, and VOX Cinemas.

“Sharjah is home to over 18-plus museums and hosts an inspiring range of illustrious events and gatherings,” said Fuad Sharaf, managing director of UAE shopping malls at Majid Al Futtaim Properties.

Sharaf added that City Centre Al Zahia will be a “focal point and pillar of the community, while offering people a platform to entertain and educate themselves in equal measure”.

“This focus on the community is especially important to us,” said Sharaf.

Majid Al Futtaim, which owns VOX Cinemas and the Mall of the Emirates, recently revealed its commitment to sustainable business and a circular economy.

“Our climate is changing and so is our way of business,” said Ibrahim Al-Zu’bi , chief sustainability officer at Majid Al Futtaim.
