Amaala, a luxury development with a focus on wellness in Saudi Arabia, has unveiled its new $2 billion yacht club, designed by architecture firm HKS.

Amaala’s Triple Bay Yacht Club covers an area of 7,900 square metres and is the centrepiece of the Triple Bay Marina. It features a terrace restaurant, infinity pool deck and rooftop cabana lounge.

“Amaala is one of the flagship Saudi Vision 2030 projects and remains central to the kingdom’s ambition to become a global tourism leader,” said John Pagano, Amaala CEO.

“We anticipate that Amaala will become an international hub for luxury yachting, and as such, the yacht club required a world-class design, influenced by the surrounding natural elements and Arabic heritage, and underpinned by our commitment to sustainability.”

The yacht club’s design is inspired by the unique rock formations of Saudi’s Red Sea coastline. The interior of the club, also designed by HKS, uses local materials including stone, timber and metals.

Dan Flower, design director at HKS and lead architect for the yacht club, said the firm wanted to create “a building of its place, with the design drawing inspiration from local landscapes and culture, alongside the nature of the marine lifestyle”.

“Sustainability in all aspects is at the heart of our design, seamlessly integrating the building with the stunning mountain and marine landscape of the Red Sea,” added Kevin Underwood, global head of hospitality at HKS.

Spanning three bays along the coastline, the marina is due to welcome its first guests in 2024. It will include eight resorts with more than 1,200 hotel rooms, as well as luxury F&B, retail and leisure.

Amaala to be powered by renewable energy

Amaala will be a sustainable development, powered by renewable energy. The project is expected to create more than 50,000 new jobs for Saudis and contribute more than 11 billion riyals ($2.9bn) to the country’s GDP.

Located in the Prince Mohammad bin Salman Natural Reserve, Amaala will be home to more than 3,000 hotel rooms across 25 hotels. It will also boast 900 residential properties, and retail, dining and wellness facilities.

Neom, Saudi Arabia’s $500bn city of the future, has launched a regreening initiative to plant 100 million trees. Saudi is creating a host of attractions and giga-projects as part of Vision 2030, including its first water park at Qiddiya.
