SSA Group, a best-in-class provider of integrated guest services, has announced its new Climate Action Plan, created in partnership with Verdis Group. This comprehensive strategy is designed to lead the firm towards a sustainable future and sets out its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, embracing sustainability, and fostering resilience against climate change impacts.
The Climate Action Plan outlines how SSA Group intends to reach its goal of being Net Zero by 2040 and features four restorative initiatives and drivers.
Four key areas of focus
1. Industry influential leadership
SSA is a national leader in sustainability and climate action in the food, retail, and admissions sectors of cultural attractions. It creates sustainable and regenerative solutions for its partners and pushes its competitors to do more.
By attending more international conferences and serving on committees, the firm hopes to strengthen its overall effect and influence within the industry.
2. Restorative purchasing
The company strives for sustainable materials and goods in its buying strategy to support its regenerative goals. Examples include the impact of the sector on the development of more environmentally friendly products and packaging for retail and food services.
Circular, net zero, and climate action standards will be incorporated into the purchasing and procurement guidelines that SSA creates and aligns.
3. Mitigating emissions
To reach Net Zero emissions by 2040, the firm says it will endeavour to offset emissions from sources under its direct control and significantly reduce its carbon footprint from activities outside of it. To do this, it aims to convert 70% of its locations to fully electric culinary kitchens by 2030 and says that, by 2040, 90% of its equipment will be gas-free.
More projects include implementing initiatives for edible food recovery, switching to washable service wear, and using compostable disposables.
4. Internal sustainability culture
Through professional growth, incentives, emotional support, and education, SSA Group’s staff members are actively involved in climate action and sustainability. It will continue to improve internal participation using tools like Climate Action Task Forces for the entire organisation and Climate Action Thursdays.
