The operator of Movie Animation Park Studios in Malaysia is preparing to add a 10-inversion roller coaster to the park at a cost of RM20m ($5.1m).

Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) is owned and operated by Animation Theme Park, a subsidiary of Perak Corp. Perak deputy CEO Rustam Apandi Jamaludin told The Star that MAPS has purchased the roller coaster and is currently getting approvals for the ride as well as deciding on where to locate it in the park.

“It will be a ride solely owned by us and not linked to any brands,” he said.

The coaster is expected to be set up by the end of the year or in early 2019. It will feature 10 inversions, where riders are turned upside down in loops, and is said to be only the third roller coaster in the world with that many inversions.

The other two 10-inversion coasters are in Chimelong Paradise in China and Thorpe Park in the UK.

Earlier this week, Blooloop reported that the final of the six zones at MAPS is expected to open in June this year. Dream Zone, themed on the IP of films produced by DreamWorks Animation, comprises around a third of the park and has been off limits since MAPS opened in June last year.

Mohd Farid Abdul Aziz, chief operating officer of MAPS, told a press conference: “Initially we had signed an agreement with DreamWorks for the Dream Zone, but they were recently been taken over by Universal Studios, who have their own set of requirements. We are in the midst of fulfilling their requirements.”

The final work to be completed is technical reviews for two of the rides. “We expect that the Dream Zone will be opened by June this year,” he added.

Perak Corp is currently negotiating with theme park operator Only World Group to co-manage and co-operate MAPS. A deal is expected by the end of April.
