Cedar Point wants to build a $28 million indoor youth athletic complex. A presentation of the sports facility was made to Erie County commissioners by representsatives of Ohio amusement park on May 25.

The new facility would be located next to Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center, which opened in April. If approved, it could be ready for games by early 2019.

The 185,000-square-feet complex would consist of:

• Hardwood floors catering to 10 basketball courts, which can convert into 20 volleyball courts

• A championship arena with retractable seating

• A sports medicine facility

• An indoor walking trail, open to the community

• A recreation centre, open to the community

• A grand lobby/mezzanine,with event space available to rent out for community functions

• A rest area to support the future development of an outdoor nature trail running parallel to Sandusky Bay

Located outside of Cedar Point on Cleveland Road, Sandusky, projections show the new sports facility attracting more than 70,000 additional visitors annually.
