Dubai continues its preparations for the 2020 World Expo with the announcement that 47 construction contracts worth $3bn will be awarded to local and foreign companies.
According to Arabian Business, this will ensure the majority of projects will be completed a year before the fair opens.
The World Expo 2020 will run between October 2020 and April 2021. It is being billed as a festival of human ingenuity. The event is expected to attract an international audience of 25 million visitors over six months.
Development of the 438-hectare (1,082 acre) expo site is expected to cost $6.8bn.
This latest phase of construction will include car parking, three pavillion districts and public areas.
According to the article, the authorities are hopeful that 80 percent of the facilities will be in use after the Expo ends.
