FORREC commits funding and support to Toronto arts-based community group

Global entertainment design company, FORREC Ltd., has committed $150,000 funding plus support to an arts-based community outreach charity.

For over 20 years. SKETCH has been working with vulnerable young people to help them acquire practical and transferable skills related to the arts.

Both organisations are based in Toronto. SKETCH will receive the funding over a three year period.

Additionally, FORREC will participate in a range of programmes offered by the charity:

  • Encouraging employment opportunities as art mentors
  • Hosting the culinary programme, providing meals for 125 young people
  • Extending the reach of SKETCH’s brand initiatives by funding an awareness campaign
  • Volunteering at SKETCH in a variety of administrative and fundraising roles

“An organisation that encourages a passion for design is one we want to support, especially when it’s focused on young people who have not had a real opportunity to develop their creative abilities,“ commented Gordon Dorrett, President and CEO of FORREC Ltd.

“We were especially drawn to the fact that SKETCH works locally in Toronto, with an age group that is vulnerable and in need of a creative outlet.”

The charity works with people aged 16 to 29. Some are homeless, others are at risk, and all have been pushed to the margins of society. SKETCH helps them build leadership skills and economic self-sufficiency, driving social change through the power of the arts.

“It’s always inspiring to see someone explore their creative sides,” added Dorrett. “We’re excited to help these young people tap into their abilities because you never know where access to these tools and skills will lead – personally or professionally.”

FORREC has been supporting community initiatives in its home city for over ten years, as well as sponsoring annual scholarships at a number of schools.

The company specialises in the design of theme parks, water parks, mixed-use and entertainment developments, resorts, and visitor attractions across the world.
