Gardaland has assembled the new ride’s three pieces

Italy’s Gardaland theme park has installed a new drop tower ride ahead of its planned opening in June 2024.

Last week, Gardaland took delivery of the 25-metre-high purple octagonal tower for the new ride, which is confirmed to be a drop and twist tower.

Guests will experience a “ritual chant surrounded by glistening symbols [and] spectacular lighting effects”, Gardaland owner Merlin Entertainments said in a press release.

When riders get to the highest point of the attraction, they will plummet through dense clouds of smoke. Before this, they will move up and down the tower several times, repeatedly rotating around the axis.

“We can’t wait to inaugurate this attraction that is destined to become a new icon of Gardaland,” said Sabrina de Carvalho, divisional director of Gardaland.

“Thanks to its impressive set design and light and sound effects, our guests will be involved in a memorable experience.

“It promises to be not just a fun experience but also a real adventure, which will spark the imagination and guarantee excitement for our visitors.”

The three pieces that make up the new attraction, weighing a total of approximately 22,000kg, have been assembled and hoisted into place by two cranes.

The new ride is equipped with a hydraulic system, meaning its gondola can be controlled via a state-of-the-art touchscreen control panel.

Gardaland Resort contains the Gardaland amusement park, the Legoland Water Park, a Sea Life aquarium, and three hotels. It welcomes nearly three million visitors a year.

In 2022, Gardaland opened the world’s first Jumanji-themed ride, based on Sony Pictures’ $2 billion film franchise.
