Maurer Rides, a leading designer and manufacturer of roller coasters and transport solutions, is celebrating the upcoming launch of the Bolt roller coaster on Carnival Jubilee, the newest ship in Carnival Cruise Line’s Excel Class.
Carnival Jubilee will embark on its first voyage on 23 December 2023, and will sail from Galveston, Texas, on seven-day cruises to the Western Caribbean. The vessel is a sister ship to the award-winning Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, and is the largest ship in the Carnival fleet, with a volume of 183,200 GT and a capacity of 6,600 passengers.
Award-winning coaster
This impressive vessel was built by the renowned Meyer Werft in Papenburg, and not only boasts an extraordinary size, but also spectacular attractions. The Bolt roller coaster is a key feature and provides riders with an exciting experience on the ship’s top deck.
Bolt utilises Maurer Rides’ groundbreaking technology and was installed as part of Carnival Cruise Line’s efforts to build on the success of the first two roller coasters aboard the Mardi Gras and Celebration.
With a track length of 220 metres (722 feet) and a height of 57 metres (187 feet) above sea level, Bolt is a ground-breaking attraction that provides tourists with an unprecedented high-seas experience.
The Bolt roller coaster’s Spike propulsion provides an exhilarating acceleration of 1.2 G, allowing riders to reach speeds of up to 60 km/h (38 mph), experience drops, dips, and curves, and enjoy a beautiful panorama across the ocean. The coaster also offers guests an interactive experience by allowing them to control braking and acceleration during the ride.
This technological feat was not only well received by passengers, but it also received recognition from prestigious institutions such as Popular Science, which named the roller coaster the Best of What’s New, and blooloop, where it was awarded third place in the Thrill category of the Innovation Awards.
The Carnival Jubilee, with Bolt on deck, is the crown jewel of a trilogy of ships that have pushed the boundaries of cruise entertainment, and offer passengers an amazing journey filled with thrills and excitement.
Last month, Maurer Rides announced its latest concept, the Spike Waterfight. This turns spectators into active participants who shoot water cannons from multi-platforms at the passing coaster – while riders can fire back, too.
