Pico Play begins recruitment drive for over 50 new positions

Pico Play creates over 50 new jobs

Firm is expanding its team across a broad range of roles as global demand grows

Pico Play, a global leader in the planning, design, development and construction of world-class themed attractions and entertainment, has announced that it is creating over 50 new jobs in response to a new pipeline of work.

The recruitment drive will enhance the firm’s expertise and satisfy the demand for its services worldwide.

Expanding capacity

Pico Play presently employs around 225 people, and with this recruitment initiative plans to increase its team in Malaysia, Vietnam, and Australia. Darren McLean, executive director, says that the firm is working on 15 projects in eight countries and will announce further projects soon:

“The focus of this significant recruitment drive is to grow our capability and capacity to deliver our industry-leading end-to-end services. As such, the roles we’ve got in market touch all parts of the business from project managers and supervisors to artists, designers, engineers and fabricators.”

Many positions will be in Pico Play’s busy fabrication facilities in Hai Duong, Vietnam, and Johor, Malaysia. Both have recently expanded to accommodate growing international demand for the firm’s services.

Pico Play creates over 50 new jobs team members

Positions range from entry-level and junior, to senior, highly skilled, and leadership roles. However, all share a common approach:

“These aren’t short-term contracts. Pico Play offers genuine, ongoing and long-term opportunities with the potential for career development and progression,” says McLean. “Our people turn up to work excited and interested in what they work on – every day and every project is different.”

The firm’s positive workplace culture leads to higher worker retention rates than the industry standard. This enables it to invest in developing fresh talent.

Fun-makers wanted

Pico Play is looking to hire top graduates from universities including Vietnam’s Hue University of Fine Arts to fill multiple junior artist positions at its Hai Duong location.

McLean comments: “We have some incredible senior artists who will serve as mentors so our new juniors will learn by immersing themselves in the team and following the processes and techniques of our established artist team.

“It’s important to have a pipeline of young talent in the group to meet our long-term-planning requirements and to develop their skills to make a creative impact on the really exciting new work about to land.”

The firm is looking for candidates with a global mindset, innovative thinking, customer-first focus, imagination, creativity, and fun – as well as the necessary skills and experience for each position. They should also be open to sharing cultures and skills and enjoy learning. Pico Play promotes these qualities through weekly training sessions, professional development opportunities, team-building activities, and international secondments and exchanges.

Established in 2019, the Pico Play Employee Exchange Program (PPEEP) provides non-managerial employees with overseas placements. This offers the opportunity to develop new skills and approaches and to compare cultures.

Employees also have regular opportunities to travel abroad to work on Pico Play projects. For example, this year 10 artists, sculptors and painters from Southeast Asia will work on two significant attractions at Dreamworld and Movieworld in Australia.

McLean adds: “Pico Play is meeting the growing demand for unique experiences in the tourism and leisure sector. We can’t wait to grow our passionate and multinational team of skilled workers to help us develop extraordinary attractions and destinations and deliver unforgettable guest experiences.”

Earlier this year, Pico Play shared details on its project to create an ancient temple in its cutting-edge fabrication facility in Hai Duong, Vietnam. Over 75 artists, sculptors, engineers and production workers are manufacturing the temple, which is set to become the centrepiece of the Jungle Rush rollercoaster. The new attraction is coming to Dreamworld in Australia in 2024.
