Disney to launch app to entertain queuing guests

News
Play Disney Parks app

Disney is launching a new smartphone app that will allow guests waiting in queues to access exclusive games and experiences that are tied to specific locations in its parks.

Coming to both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort this summer, Play Disney Parks will have games only accessible to guests in certain areas of the park, with the in-app experience changing from attraction to attraction.

Play Disney Parks will include real-world effects that are set-off by in-app gameplay. Guests can already have a similar experience using their smartphones while playing the scavenger hunt at Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure in Epcot. The digital fun will now be extended to all of Disney’s US parks.

A Disney Blogs post announcing the new app said: “With the touch of a button, wait time turns into play time with family and friends at certain locations. And the more you explore in Disney parks, the more there is to discover on the app. This is just the latest way we are making a visit to our parks even more fun and memorable in new and innovative ways.”

Play Disney Parks will be free to download and available on both Android and iOS.

Disney has been investing a lot in the digital experience at its parks. It recently announced the introduction of digital hotel keys as part of the My Disney Experience app. Guests at hotels at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando will soon be able to use their smartphones to unlock their hotel rooms, hotel entrance gates and doors to pools, fitness centres, elevators and club level lounges.
