Zeitgeist, the company founded by themed industry veteran, Ryan Harmon, has been appointed by Media Nusantara Citra (MNC) Group, to design an immersive USD500-million theme park for the Lido Lakes region on the island of Java.
The park, located one hour southwest of Indonesia’s capital city, Jakarta, will encompass around 40 hectares of stunning canyons, jungles and ancient riverbeds at the foot of two volcanoes.
The Zeitgeist design has eschewed the trend for Hollywood “studio” theme parks and IP-based attractions, and chosen instead to highlight the site’s dramatic natural setting and Indonesian home with a compelling original story and a collection of adventure-themed rides, shows, and attractions.
“Our strategy is to create a theme park filled with original stories that can be told through the MNC media network, which controls the largest market share in Southeast Asia, ” reported MNC chairman Hary Tanoesoedibjo. “The result will be a fantastic, safe, and well-maintained family entertainment destination that tourists will flock to and Indonesians will feel proud of.”
Harmon (pictured above), whose past clients include Walt Disney Imagineering, Warner Bros. and Paramount Parks, said he and his team were humbled to be chosen by MNC: “The site is beautiful and the company has a rare vision to create something fresh and exciting — and do things the right way. Our goal is to spend the next four years designing and producing the most beautiful, magical, and immersive family entertainment experience in Southeast Asia, if not the world.”
Zeitgeist’s design invites visitors to explore an immersive world of six distinct territories, each home to a unique community of characters who live in harmony with one another — a metaphor for Indonesia’s motto: “unity in diversity.”
“The team that Ryan assembled at Zeitgeist is world-class, ” commented Seth Wang, Senior Vice President, Parks at MNC, “and the original concepts they conjured up thrilled our chairman and far exceeded our board’s expectations.”
