SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc. and Sesame Workshop have announced an extension to their existing partnership to build a new Sesame Place theme park in the US.

The new agreement builds on a 37 year partnership, which covers the Sesame Street lands at the Busch Gardens theme parks, and the SeaWorld theme parks in San Diego and San Antonio.

A new Sesame Street land is to be built in SeaWorld Orlando by fall 2022.

The new licensing deal, which runs to the end of December 2031, confirms SeaWorld as Sesame Workshop’s exclusive theme park partner in the United States.

SeaWorld will develop the the second Sesame Place theme park, based on the much loved educational children’s TV show Sesame Street.  The theme park should open no later than mid 2021 but the location has yet to be confirmed.  SeaWorld will then have the option to build additional Sesame Place theme parks in the U.S.

Commenting on the announcement, Joel Manby, President and Chief Executive Officer of SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc., said, “We share Sesame’s goal of educating and entertaining generations of children, and the extension of our partnership furthers SeaWorld’s mission to provide guests with experiences that matter.  We are thrilled to be able to grow the presence of Sesame Place theme parks in the U.S. and help our company diversify its brand portfolio and expand into new areas.”

“We know that the magic of theme parks gives families a unique and powerful way to experience and delight in the Sesame Street characters.  Building more Sesame Place theme parks will enable us to connect with even more families and provide funding that supports our nonprofit mission,” said Jeffrey D. Dunn, Chief Executive Officer of Sesame Workshop.

“Expanding our Sesame Place theme park footprint will both deepen our relationship with longstanding fans and help us to connect with new families,” added Steve Youngwood, Chief Operating Officer of Sesame Workshop. “This partnership will also enable the Workshop to continue producing high-quality educational programming for the next generation.”
