Six Flags Over Texas is celebrating its 60th anniversary with the announcement of Pirates of Speelunker Cave, a boat ride debuting for the 2022 season.
The ride is a reimagining of one of the park’s first attractions, The Cave, which operated from 1964 to 1991. It will replace the current version, Yosemite Sam and the Gold River Adventure.
Pirates of Speelunker Cave is a state-of-the-art attraction that puts riders in the middle of a pirate treasure hunt thwarted by ‘Speelunkers’, original characters that featured in The Cave.
Pirates of Speelunker Cave opens early 2022

“As the world’s first regional theme park, Six Flags Over Texas has built a solid reputation of providing innovative thrills and lifelong memories for generations of families,” said park president Ron McKenzie.
“What better way to celebrate our park’s 60th anniversary than by announcing a brand-new attraction that pays homage to our past and launches us into the future.”
Pirates of Speelunker’s Cave will feature 26 passenger boats, state-of-the-art animatronics, wide-projection technology, 17 new scenes, and immersive digital and physical sets.
In addition, a new entry plaza with coastal theming at Six Flags Over Texas will feature a vantage point of the ride’s first descent into the Speelunker’s Cave.
Aquaman: Power Wave launching summer 2022

Also launching next season at Six Flags Over Texas is Aquaman: Power Wave, a multi-launch water coaster that launches riders backwards and forwards and is the first of its kind in North America.
Aquaman: Power Wave reaches speeds of up to 63 mph and hurtles guests across more than 700 feet of track. It also features a state-of-the-art turntable station and is scheduled to open in summer 2022.
Six Flags Fiesta Texas has also announced plans to launch the world’s steepest dive coaster, Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger, in summer 2022.
