Thorpe Park says there is “nothing virtual about this petrifying experience“.

Merlin’s UK theme parks are getting spookier, with Thorpe Park opening the new Ghost Train ride in spring 2023.

Described as a “harrowing ride into the realms beneath Thorpe Park”, the eerie attraction replaces Derren Brown’s Ghost Train and features a new storyline and special effects.

Ghost Train, according to Thorpe Park, is one of the UK’s longest ride experiences to include live actors and multi-sensory effects.

“Depart the mortal world on a one-way ticket beyond the veil into darkness on Thorpe Park Resort’s newest ride experience – Ghost Train,” says Thorpe Park.

“But watch your tracks, death is always one stop ahead.”

Additionally, Thorpe Park says there is “nothing virtual about this petrifying experience, so prepare to meet your maker as you come face-to-face with horrors that dwell within”.

In spring 2023, Alton Towers is also opening a new dark ride called ‘The Curse at Alton Manor’. The haunted house ride-through attraction is replacing Duel.

The developers of The Curse at Alton Manor have found “new and imaginable ways to scare and surprise fans” via state-of-the-art special effects and visuals that have never been seen before in a UK theme park.

The Curse at Alton Manor is no ordinary dark ride,” said Kate McBirnie, head of product excellence at Alton Towers.

“It has all the components of a supernatural tale – it’s dark, compelling and promises some thrilling and scary moments along the way. Fans of eerie rides will certainly appreciate this one.”

At Thorpe Park, plans have been approved for a new roller coaster, the park’s first new coaster since The Swarm opened in 2012.
