Warner Bros will build a huge £750 million cartoon-themed hotel connected to Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi.

Reports suggest that the hotel is due to open by 2020. The development is part of a government strategy to expand the city’s economy away from its oil reserves.

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak from Miral Asset Management said: “A Warner Bros hotel here is a certainty. It’s coming a couple of years from now.

“It will be connected to some extent to the actual theme park so it is almost a two minute walk. It is the first of its kind for Warner Bros and will have a hint of it in the rooms.”

The hotel will have eight levels and 156 rooms. There will also be a seven-floor block containing 156 apartments. The land surrounding the hotel will be kept clear for possible future expansion.

Mohamed said the park intends to add new rollercoasters and rides “every couple of years”.

He said: “What we are trying to do is create a place where families and individuals can spend four, five or six days, enjoy the sunshine, enjoy shopping, quality food and of course the theme parks.”

The UAE’s (United Arab Emirates) newest theme park opened to the public on July 25, following an inauguration two days earlier. The 1.65 million square feet (153,000 square metres) facility represents an investment equivalent to US$1 billion.

The park features six themed lands based on DC super heroes and characters from Warner Bros films and cartoons. The lands – MetropolisGotham CityCartoon JunctionBedrockDynamite Gulch and Warner Bros Plaza – combine to offer a total of 29 rides, shows and attractions.

Themed hotels

Themed accommodation is a big trend. Cartoon Network announced last week that it has teamed up with Palace Entertainment to open its first hotel themed on the network’s popular animated characters.

Meanwhile the ultra themed Star Wars hotel which is being developed by Disney will offer guests the chance to become immersed in the ultimate fan experience with secret missions, uniforms and interactors.
