THE RIG., an entertainment project from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund’s (PIF), has revealed its masterplan. This sets out an ambitious and unparalleled vision for the offshore attraction, which seeks to revolutionise adventure tourism.
The initiative is aligned with PIF’s strategy and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals of diversifying the economy, creating jobs both directly and indirectly, and supporting the expansion of the tourism industry.
Unique adventure experience
THE RIG. honours Saudi Arabia’s significant oil and gas heritage and reflects the design of offshore oil platforms. The one-of-a-kind hospitality and adventure experience will cover a total floor area of more than 300,000 square metres. It will be positioned in the Arabian Gulf, 40 kilometres from the shore and near Al Juraid Island and the Berri Oil Field.
The attraction aims to welcome over 900,000 per year visitors by 2032. It will cater to a diverse variety of domestic, regional, and worldwide audiences, including thrill-seekers, explorers, balanced vacationers, and those who are looking for relaxation.
THE RIG will offer a variety of hospitality, leisure, entertainment, and accommodation options. Its three hotels will provide a combined 800 rooms, and it will also feature 11 restaurants, an extreme sports and adventure park, an elite marina, and helipads. It will also have a broad array of water-based activities, including a diving centre, along with an amusement park, splash park, an Esports venue, an immersive theatre and a multiple-use arena.
By providing an unmissable, outstanding and one-of-a-kind experience, THE RIG. will honour the Kingdom’s rich oil and gas tradition.
THE RIG. will be developed by the Oil Park Development Company (OPDC) under the leadership of CEO Raed N. Bakhrji who has served in the oil and gas sector for over two decades and is passionate about the future of adventure tourism.
