Vortex’s Water Journey recognised in International Design Awards

Global water play provider Vortex Aquatic Structures picked up four International Design Awards (IDA) recently for its new line of Water Journey elements.

The experiences, named Pico, Alto and Hop, took Bronze in the following categories:

  • Children Products
  • Toddler Products
  • Outdoor and Leisure Fun Games
  • Designs for Social Impact

Vortex designed the trio of highly tactile ground-level experiences for children aged 2 to 5 years, an important period of childhood development and an age group it felt was underserved in the aquatic play sector.

Inspired by the dynamism of mountainside cascades and stepping stones, the Water Play elements stimulate preschoolers’ cognitive, social and motor skills through open-ended play. Little ones can manipulate their surroundings and explore cause and effect. Each of the elements is suitable for newcomers to aquatic play, but also interactive enough to appeal to older children and encourage siblings to play together.

“We make sure to wrap meaningful play and learning experiences in refreshing fun,” says Stephen Hamelin, president of Vortex Aquatic Structures International. “We are delighted that the IDA jury shares our vision of innovation with the expansion of our Water Journey collection.”

Launched last September, Pico, Alto and Hop are the latest of several award-winning products from Vortex. The original Water Journey family was also a recipient of several design awards, including Most Valuable Product by Aquatics International Magazine in 2016. The company also boasts one other International Design Award to its name.

With over 7,600 installations in 50 countries, Vortex Aquatic Structures is a world-leading creator of water play landscapes. The International Design Awards were established in 2007 to recognise talent in architecture, interior, product, graphic and fashion design.
