Cedar Fair

Cedar Fair Entertainment Company is a major amusement park operator based in North America. It also operates water parks and hotel resorts. Founded in 1983, the company name is the amalgamation of its two first locations, Cedar Point and Valleyfair.

The company went public in 1987 and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Cedar Fair’s headcount is approximately 2,000 full-time and 40,000 part-time employees.

Cedar Fair runs a number of popular theme parks, frequently appearing on top park rankings.

Located near the company’s headquarters in Sandusky, Ohio, US, Cedar Point opened in 1870 and is the second-oldest amusement park in the country. Its notable attractions include Top Thrill Dragster, the fastest coaster in the world at the opening, and Millennium Force, the first coaster to exceed 300ft in height.

It acquired several sites in a 2006 deal with Paramount Parks. These were California’s Great America, Canada’s Wonderland, Carowinds, Kings Dominion, and Kings Island.

Other theme park sites include Dorney Park, Knott’s Berry Farm, Michigan’s Adventure and Worlds of Fun. Cedar Fair’s water parks often share brand names; Schlitterbahn, Soak City, and WildWater.

Cedar Fair’s current CEO is Richard A. Zimmerman, who has been active in the role since 2018, following former CEO Matt Ouimet.
