The Auschwitz Museum will see record visitor numbers for 2016; the number of people who visited in the first ten months of 2016 was around the same as for the whole of 2015.
The visit by Pope Francis as part of World Youth Days in summer boosted numbers with over 155, 000 pilgrims from across the world participating.
Both a museum and a memorial, The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim, Poland is devoted to the memory of those murdered in both camps during WWII. It is located on the site of two parts of the former concentration and extermination camp.
The museum’s director, the historian, Dr. Piotr M. A. Cywiński spoke us earlier in the year about his role and of the museum’s unique function and responsibility.
