The Japanese shopping mall operator Aeon plans to develop a new generation of theme parks and FECs across Asia.
Subsidiary Aeon Fantasy will open 370 outlets over the next three years as it uses leisure as a driver to differentiate its retail offering. The new facilities will take Aeon’s portfolio in Japan and abroad to 660 locations.
In China, 200 news sites will be added to the company’s 165 existing outlets. A further 30 to 45 new sites will be developed in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, where Aeon expanded in 2014.
Rising incomes have increased demand for such facilities across Asia. Â The Aeon Fantasy offerings will be operated under a number of different names, ranging from arcade brand Molly Fantasy to indoor parks like Kidzoonia (not to be confused with KidZania).
“We will act as the second anchor tenant in commercial facilities,” says Aeon Fantasy president Nao Kataoka.
