Sundown Adventureland, a fairytale theme park in Nottinghamshire, is expanding to offer accommodation as the trend for staycations in the UK continues to grow. The UK-based theme park is looking to the future by building 66 luxury lodges, named Wild Acre Village, at its site in Retford so that guests can extend their visit.
“For years, our guests have been telling us they would love to stay longer at the park, and we feel now is the right time to bring this exciting new offering from Sundown to life,” said Gaynor Corr, owner of Sundown Adventureland.
“We think our new lodges will provide the perfect solution – a luxurious UK short break, where families can catch up on some much-needed quality time together.”
“We really hope these new luxury lodges will offer a memorable yet affordable option for many families, come next year,” Corr added.
Growing trend for staycations in UK
Located in the Nottinghamshire countryside, Sundown Adventureland is a fairytale-style attraction spread across 30 acres, designed for children under the age of 10.
Originally opened as a farmyard in 1968, the children’s theme park is family-owned and managed by the late Audrey Rhodes’ immediate family, including her daughter Gaynor. Rides include Ostrich Safari, Rocky Mountain Railroad and Jolly Pirate Boat Ride, while play areas include Angry Birds Activity Park, Lollipoppet Castle and Storybook Village.
The expansion has already started with construction of the cabins. These will all boast a themed wall mural, and many of them will have luxury hot tubs. Sundown expects the lodges to be fully open by February 2022.
Elsewhere, Miral is opening the world’s first Warner Bros. hotel in Abu Dhabi, and Jumeirah Group is selling tickets for a tour of Dubai‘s iconic Burj Al Arab hotel.
