Intamin roller coaster launches go vertical

News
Intamin Vertical Launch Coaster

Dubai is home to one of the first coasters implementing this technology

Intamin, a creator of record-breaking amusement rides, has announced the addition of a new roller coaster element which can be implemented in future installations.

Utilising one of the market’s strongest LSM launches, guests can now be propelled towards the sky with powerful linear synchronous motors.

“Were you ever bored with a standard vertical lift and wanted something more? We did!” says a company representative. “This is one of the reasons why we came up with the Vertical Launch Coaster. This launch uses Intamin’s proven LSM launch system, now adapted for vertical launches.”

The vertical launch provides an experience similar to that experienced by astronauts thanks to a state-of-the-art system designed for high speeds and accelerations, customisable to operators’ preferences and site requirements.

“This guarantees an exhilarating sensation, leaving your riders breathless and allowing for new creative possibilities in ride layout designs.” Trains can now gain height quickly in areas where space is tight, launching straight into ride elements. An innovative anti-rollback system ensures maximum safety and a smooth evacuation process in case of emergency, bringing the vehicle safely to a stop.

Practical innovations

The system can be utilised on circuits with single-, multi- or swing-launch-sections, and a panoramic top hat feature with anticipation stall is still possible. The launch is also compatible with Intamin’s comfortable, state-of-the-art trains which utilise a comfortable, ergonomic restraint system for maximum freedom.

One of the first Intamin vertical launch coasters, The Storm, was recently unveiled in Dubai. This action-packed LSM Launch Coaster uses Intamin’s most powerful launch drive system to power a thrilling 50-meter vertical launch. With a total of 670 metres of track and a top speed of 77 km/h, riders encounter airtime, speed fluctuations, a sudden drop, and unexpected acceleration.

Earlier this month, Intamin unveiled its new Motion Tower concept, providing fully immersive flying theatre-style experiences.
