Supermarket chain Lidl is opening an immersive experience for wine enthusiasts called ‘Vino Sensoria’ in Belfast and Dublin next month.
Hosted by Lidl’s master of wine, Richard Bampfield, the pop-up experience will take place in Dublin on 8, 9 and 10 November, and in Belfast on 22, 23 and 24 November.
Via the website, guests will “step into a world where your senses are shocked, your taste buds tingled, and your perceptions challenged”.
They will begin their experience in the immersive ‘Discombobulator’ room before making their way to the tasting room. There, they will try a curated collection of wine in complete darkness.
Trained table hosts will guide guests through this part of the Vino Sensoria experience using night vision goggles.
The journey ends in the ‘Lumina’ room, where the wines are revealed and visitors can decide what to buy.
For people who suffer from a fear of the dark or claustrophobia, the Vino Sensoria website notes that the experience includes flashing lights, restricted lighting, altered perception and changing audio levels
“The aim of Vino Sensoria is to dispel some of the myths surrounding the buying and serving of wine. By tasting in total darkness with no distractions, tasters can concentrate fully on the wine in the glass and reach a better understanding of their own tastes and palate,” said Richard Bampfield.

“Guests will leave feeling inspired, challenged and their taste buds reawakened. And with a new-found appreciation of high-quality wine selections that won’t break the bank.”
Tickets for Vino Sensoria are £12, and 100 percent of ticket sales will be donated to Lidl Northern Ireland and Lidl Ireland’s charity partners.
Earlier this year, furniture brand Ikea promoted its new sleep range with an immersive “sleepeasy” experience in New York.
