Alton Towers has unveiled a new attraction for its Forbidden Valley area, and it’s a topspin ride named Toxicator to open this year.
Located next to the new Nemesis Reborn coaster, Toxicator is a 78-foot-high topspin ride that flips riders around and holds them face down above a “bubbling pool of highly toxic alien acid”, Alton Towers said.
Bianca Sammut, vice president of Alton Towers, said the park “is renowned for consistently delivering new and reimagined thrills for our fans and as the UK’s only topspin ride, we’re excited to welcome Toxicator to the park”.
She added: “We can’t wait to challenge thrillseekers to submit to the spin. Located in the heart of Forbidden Valley, this is the latest chapter in the Nemesis story which has captivated generations of thrillseekers worldwide.
“We’re not yet ready to reveal precisely when Toxicator will turn your world upside down, but rest assured the wait will be worth it.”
Toxicator is the only topspin ride in the world to be elevated above ground level, and uses the latest technology by the Phalanx – the secret (and fictional) organisation tasked with controlling the Nemesis beast.
To make way for Toxicator, Alton Towers retired The Blade, a post-apocalyptic-themed swinging ride, originally opened as the Pirate Ship attraction in 1980.
New topspin ride in Forbidden Valley
The theme park said evaluating its lineup of attractions “is an ongoing process that occurs at the end of each theme park season, with continued reinvestment in our world-class rides and attractions always front and centre”.
Nemesis Reborn opened last year after an 18-month transformation. Alton Towers replaced the coaster’s 250-tonne, 716-metre-long track, which is now covered with red veins.
The ride also features new storytelling elements and a redesigned mythical beast, brought to life through state-of-the-art audiovisual (AV) technology.
In more news, Alton Towers has submitted a planning application for a new junior coaster in its CBeebies Land, which the park hopes to launch in 2026.
