Expo City Dubai is offering youth discussions, forums, exhibitions and performances.

Expo City Dubai has launched a year-long programme of sustainability-themed events ahead of next year’s UN climate summit Cop28.

To support global climate change mitigation, Expo City Dubai will be providing youth discussions, forums, exhibitions and performances.

“Tackling climate change remains at the top of the global agenda, a priority for the UAE, and a conversation we are actively engaged in as a city and educational hub,” said Marjan Faraidooni, chief of education and culture at Expo City Dubai.

“It is clear that every individual must bear the responsibility to learn more about the challenges we face and how we can each play a role to help address them.”

The programme of events includes a platform for young people from schools across the UAE to discuss the climate crisis, starting on 21 November.

Students will also take part in sustainability-themed performances at Expo City Dubai’s Al Wasl Plaza on 24 and 25 November.

The ‘Reflections on Climate Change’ exhibition will open later, with visitors learning about the history and goals of UN climate summits, as well as the initiatives already in place to tackle the climate crisis.

Terra, the site’s sustainability pavilion, continues to offer interactive learning experiences. Co-designed by the Eden Project, Terra features sustainable technologies and innovations.

These include rotating ‘energy trees’ that support PV arrays, and ‘water trees’ that enable a passive method of dew harvesting. The centrepiece is a giant anglerfish, its mouth choked with plastic pollution.

The new programming “will engage everyone, regardless of age, background or awareness, in wider efforts to mitigate climate change, building momentum to Cop28 and beyond”, added Faraidooni.

Expo City Dubai is home to many of the World Expo’s flagship pavilions, as well as leisure facilities, entertainment and F&B outlets.

Expo City Dubai will serve as the host of Cop28 in 2023.
