Expo 2020 Dubai to open as city with new museum and attractions

Opening on 1 October 2022, the new ‘Expo City Dubai’ will be a sustainable and futuristic destination.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has announced the opening of ‘Expo City Dubai’ in October 2022. It will feature the World Expo‘s most popular attractions and the new Expo 2020 Dubai Museum.

Opening on 1 October, the new city will be a sustainable and futuristic destination. It will feature many of Expo 2020 Dubai’s flagship pavilions, educational experiences and entertainment offerings.

Expo City Dubai will also be home to leisure facilities, a mall and F&B outlets. Sheikh Mohammed said the city “represents the most beautiful ambitions of Dubai”.

“Expo City Dubai will be an environmentally-friendly city, one friendly to families, to the economy, and to future generations,” he added.

Expo 2020’s most visited attractions, the Al Wasl Plaza, Garden in the Sky observation tower and Surreal water feature, will remain as part of the city.

“A city in which the magic of Expo will live on – Al Wasl will continue to shine, the waterfall will continue to delight, and the UAE, Alif and Terra pavilions will continue to fascinate visitors of all ages,” he said.

The site’s Alif and Terra pavilions will still provide interactive educational experiences. The Opportunity Pavilion will become the Expo 2020 Dubai Museum, highlighting the history and impact of World Expos.

“This new city will be home to an extraordinary new museum, a world-class exhibition centre, and the headquarters of cutting edge and fast-growing companies,” said Sheikh Mohammed.

“It will continue to host the pavilions of Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Egypt, and others. It will be a city that embodies the dreams of every city, and one which continues to bring joy to our children, our families, and all those we love.”

Additional attractions from Expo 2020 Dubai to remain include the Woman’s Pavilion and Vision Pavilion, as well as the UAE Pavilion and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Pavilion.

Reworked versions of the Luxembourg, Australia, Pakistan, India, Morocco and Egypt pavilions will feature.
