Alcorn McBride, leading manufacturer of show control, audio and video equipment for the themed entertainment industry, has provided specialist equipment for the recently opened Orlando Eye.

The giant observation wheel is one of the landmark attractions at Merlin Entertainments’ new dining and entertainment destination, I-Drive 360.

Alcorn provided show control and A/V playback products for the “The Dream Wheel”, a 4D theatre pre-show experience.

Pro Sound & Video, Orlando selected Alcorn equipment for the 4.5-minute show, created by Acomb Ostendorf & Associates.

The show, which features 3D aerial footage of Central Florida, tells the story of a girl who falls asleep while building a model ferris wheel with her father and dreams of a wheel on a much grander scale. The on-screen action is enhanced with a range of sensory experiences including fireworks, wind, mist, lighting effects and scent.

“With a number of preshow screenings every day throughout the year we needed equipment that was up to the task, ” explains Pro Sound & Video President, Kelly Prince.  “We needed reliability and proven solid state playback; that is Alcorn McBride.”

The equipment deployed includes a V16Pro, selected for its frame-accurate show control with 16 I/Os.

“It was important that the V16Pro has a timeline feature, ” comments Don Davis, project engineer at Pro Sound & Video. “The show controller drives the 4D effects which have to hit at a certain frame each and every time.”

The Orlando Eye is one of several major attractions at the new $250m I-Drive 360 which also includes Madame Tussauds and a new SEA LIFE Aquarium.
