TikTok teamLab Reconnect is an art and sauna exhibition where visitors experience the artworks while taking alternating hot saunas and cold baths.
This allows visitors to open their minds and become one with the art, also prompting guests to enter a neurological state called ‘sauna trance’.
According to teamLab, ‘sauna trance’ is a unique neurological state that comes from alternating hot saunas and cold baths. Visitors will become immersed in the art.
TikTok teamLab Reconnect will include several pieces of art, including a new series based on teamLab’s art project, Supernature Phenomena.
teamLab art experience with saunas
The temporary experience in Tokyo’s Roppongi includes a maze of seven illuminated saunas, with guests able to enjoy the hot saunas and cold baths in swimsuits.
teamLab advises visitors change into a swimsuit before taking a hot shower. It then recommends taking a sauna for five to ten minutes, before having a cold bath for one to two minutes. Next, guests should sit down and rest in the art space.
The hot sauna, cold bath and art immersion should be repeated three times, and culminates in a hot shower in the changing rooms.
“Art is traditionally exhibited in luxurious places like palaces or museums – we wanted to create a luxurious state of mind for people to experience it,” said teamLab lab member, Takashi Kudo (via Thomson Reuters).

“Nobody goes to an art museum in this fashion because art is art and sauna is sauna,” added Kudo. “What we wanted to try is to combine and offer a very different experience – and a very different experience of this art.”
Elsewhere, Therme Art has become a strategic investor in experiential art company Superblue, which is opening its first venue in Miami. Therme Art develops projects for wellbeing resorts and is part of wellbeing company Therme Group.
Meanwhile, teamLab is heading to Saudi Arabia with teamLab Borderless Jeddah. This is part of a 10-year collaboration agreement with the Saudi Ministry of Culture.
TikTok teamLab Reconnect runs from March 22 until the end of August.
