Uber launches first submarine rideshare: scUber to the Barrier Reef

Queensland tourism and Uber have announced a new venture – scUber – the first submarine rideshare taking in the underwater sights of the Great Barrier Reef.

The ride is available on the Uber app between 27 May and 18 June.

The eye-catching promotion supports the protection and conservation of the world’s largest coral reef system through and highlights Uber’s partnership with Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef.

Tourism and Events Queensland’s Chief Executive Officer, Leanne Coddington, said, “In late 2018, consumer research identified that exploring the Great Barrier Reef in a submarine was the most desired future travel experience sought by visitors. scUber makes this wish a reality and reaffirms Queensland tourism’s commitment to providing locals and visitors alike with truly remarkable ways to explore nature’s wonderland.”

scUber app to the Great Barrier Reef

scUber rides are charged at AUD 1,500 per person with a minimum cost of AUD 3,000 per ride. The scUber experience includes:

  • Pickup from your location with the Uber app
  • Return helicopter ride to/from departure point
  • One hour ride in a scUber submarine
