Ubisoft is launching Assassin’s Creed-themed virtual reality (VR) escape rooms in over 100 locations across the US and Europe.
Developed by Ubisoft Blue Byte, Beyond Medusa’s Gate is the latest location-based entertainment (LBE) experience from the company, following Assassin’s Creed Origins: Escape the Lost Pyramid.
Beyond Medusa’s Gate, set in the re-creation of Ancient Greece from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, is built for teams of two or four people, all wearing VR headsets.
Teams will work together in an attempt to escape an Aegean coastal cave – where the legendary ship of the Argonauts is anchored – in 60 minutes, by solving puzzles and riddles.

“Ubisoft’s Escape Games are tapping into two popular and growing entertainment trends – combining escape rooms and location-based VR in highly immersive, one-of-a-kind experiences,” said Cyril Voiron, executive producer for Ubisoft’s Escape Games, in a statement.
“Beyond Medusa’s Gate continues the legacy of our game design and storytelling expertise, pushing the Escape Room experience category with memorable state-of-the-art VR experiences that go beyond what is physically possible.”
“The level of immersion in Beyond Medusa’s Gate is astonishing and will make players feel like they are truly in the game,” added Benedikt Grindel, managing director at Ubisoft Blue Byte.

VR Maze
In September 2018, media-based attractions company, Triotech released a free-roaming virtual reality experience – Assassin’s Creed: The Temple of Anubis – exclusively on VR Maze.
Recently, Koezio, the live adventure attraction specialist, announced plans to open Belgium’s first VR Maze at its Brussels indoor adventure park.
Developed in collaboration with Ubisoft, VR Maze is a small footprint, big experience attraction.
Participants ‘break out’ of the 9 square metre game space by immersing themselves in expansive VR worlds. Three games currently available for the system feature blockbuster IPs Raving Rabbids, Assassin’s Creed Origins, and Minotaure.
