Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) innovators 8i have raised a further $27 million in funding (bringing the total to $41 million) ahead of the launch of its Mixed Reality (MR) Holo app.
The new round of funding was led by Time Warner Investments.  Other investors include Baidu Ventures (a newly formed fund), Hearst Ventures, Verizon Ventures, One Ventures and Carsten Maschmeyer’s Seed & Speed Ventures.
8i’s Mixed Reality Holo app allows users to add 3D holograms to the real-world environment and take videos and photos to share with friends.
In a statement, 8i CEO Steve Raymond said, “We’re thrilled to have the strategic expertise and backing of leaders in media, technology and communications as we bring audiences new ways to create and engage with content.  With this global round, we look forward to partnering with our investors from the U.S., China, Europe and Australia as we bring our technology to consumers worldwide.”
