The Lakeside Cemetery is a “grave experience that will live with you for eternity”.

Alton Towers is celebrating 15 years of its award-winning Scarefest event with the new ‘Lakeside Cemetery’ scare attraction for 2022.

For this year’s Halloween experience, the resort has confirmed the return of three menacing mazes, as well as the family-friendly Trick O Treat Town.

The new scare attraction has been revealed as ‘The Lakeside Cemetery’, which invites visitors to take part in a “grave experience that will live with you for eternity”.

The cemetery’s “friendly funeral director is dying to assist you as you descend into the burial chamber, where you can choose your final resting place”, said Alton Towers.

Some caskets have already been filled, but there are others, still empty, waiting for you.”

The three returning mazes are ‘The Attic: Terror of the Towers’, ‘Darkest Depths’, and ‘Altonville Mine Tours: Uncover the Legend of the Skin Snatchers’.

Alton Towers’ ‘Oktoberfest’ event is also returning on 10 September through 2 October, with an area of the theme park being transformed into a Bavarian-themed venue.

Oktoberfest will feature an oompah band and more live entertainment, as well as street theatre including ‘Beer and Bubbles’, ‘Alpine Horn Man, and the ‘Barrell Monks’.

Halloween and Oktoberfest events

“We are thrilled to be celebrating 15 years of Scarefest, as well as seeing the return of our hugely popular Oktoberfest event and our mind-blowingly awesome fireworks show,” said Chris Carter, Alton Towers’ events and entertainments director.

“Our events are bigger and better than ever – we’re bringing a great mix of roller coasters, live entertainment and fabulous food and drink, plus so much more!”

Earlier this year, Alton Towers opened three new attractions inspired by Hey DuggeeAndy’s Adventures and JoJo & Gran Gran in its CBeebies Land.

Elsewhere, Hersheypark is introducing the new ‘Dark Nights’ haunt experience as part of this year’s Halloween event, offering three spine-chilling scare zones and four horrifying haunted houses.
