China’s Chongqing to build $2.17b Film Industry Park in Wulong County

News

The city of Chongqing in Southwest China plans to invest 15 billion yuan ($2.17 billion) to create a movie and TV industry park in Wulong county, a rural mountainous area.

Tan Nianshen, the project manager for the park (named after China’s Belt and Road Initiatives) will include a theme park, a tourist town, a film studio and a training centre together with office space. Construction is set to commence in early 2017.

The plan is for the park to promote exhibitions, boost business and collaboration between Chinese and foreign film companies. There will also be an emphasis on integrating emerging technologies such as those in online entertainment and gaming such as VR (virtual reality) and AR (augmented reality).
