Dutch fairytale theme park Efteling has topped out its new Danse Macabre attraction, with the highest point of the 20-metre-high building now installed.
Named after the tone poem by Camille Saint-Saëns, Danse Macabre is opening in autumn this year. It will be an immersive attraction with a unique ride system by Intamin, a creator of record-breaking amusement rides.
During the ride experience, guests will be seated on one of six choir stalls on top of six small turntables. These are situated atop a larger, 18-metre-wide turntable, which spins like a dropped coin.
Koen Sanders, Efteling‘s director of products and marketing, said: “We are really investing in the future. The highest point of Danse Macabre nicely symbolises that.
“In line with our vision for our themed areas, we are building a completely new area in one go. Inspired by the iconic Spookslot, we are adding a creepy experience with an extra dimension to Efteling.
“Danse Macabre‘s spectacular ride system is also unique and has not yet been built anywhere else in the world. I am extremely proud of the entire project and look forward to autumn 2024.”
Designer Jeroen Verheij added: “It’s great to see my sketches being brought to life. With great attention to detail, inspired colleagues are working every day to realise this special attraction and associated themed area.
Danse Macabre to open in autumn 2024
“Today is literally a high point for Danse Macabre. Autumn 2024 is slowly approaching, and I cannot wait for the creepiest piece of Efteling.”
Efteling closed its iconic Spookslot haunted house in September 2022 to make room for Danse Macabre.
The ride is part of a new 17,000-square-metre area at Efteling, offering dining, retail and entertainment. Last year, the park opened the area’s first spooky F&B location, where guests can buy items such as ‘blood juice’.
