Hong Kong Disneyland has closed their Buzz Lightyear Astro Blaster attraction. It will be transformed into a Marvel themed shooting ride.

300 fans of the ride were brought to the park on its last day of operation, last Thursday, to say goodbye to the popular shooting-gallery ride.

To commemorate the final days, from August 8 until 31, Buzz Lightyear came to Tomorrowland to support guests from the “Buzz Lightyear Guard”. Also, Hong Kong Disneyland introduced and distributed free Buzz Lightyear-themed stickers as souvenirs

Magic Access Members were also able to get an exclusive Buzz Lightyear notebook in Star Command Suppliers or Andy’s Toy Box in Toy Story Land.

From next month, find Buzz Lightyear and other Toy Story characters will be found in Toy Story Land.

The 12 year old attraction will now be redeveloped into a Marvel-themed shooting game. It is not yet known what form this attraction will take, or when it will open.

Disney Parks’ first Marvel-themed ride was “Iron Man Experience – Presented by AIA”. It opened at Hong Kong Disneyland on January 11, 2017. The ride-through attraction has a Hong Kong story based storyline. Guests go on a flight through a Hong Kong nighttime, fighting with Iron Man against the evil forces of Hydra in a unique and interactive experience.

In the new attraction, guests will be able to join Marvel Super Heroes to defeat invaders. The park will be transformed into a must-visit destination for Marvel fans when a new Marvel-themed land opens at Hong Kong Disneyland in the future.

The Toy Story Franchise is the 5th best selling animated franchise of all time. A fourth film is also planned for release in June 2019.

A statement from the park said: “HKDL is gearing up for the next page in its exciting development and expansion, in which popular stories, characters and all-new attractions will be introduced.”
