Barcelona’s legendary striker, Lionel ‘Leo’ Messi, is to be the star of a new theme park in the Chinese city of Nanjing.
More details have been revealed about the Messi Experience Park (MEP) which was first announced in June.
The project is a partnership between Leo Messi Management, MediaPro Exhibitions and Phoenix U-Art.
According to representatives of Mediapro, MEP will be a homage to football through Messi and will feature other soccer heroes.
The new park will include 20 interactive experiences and attractions driven by the latest immersive technologies. Examples given include robotics, virtual reality, mixed reality and holographic technologies. Fans will have the ability to play with Messi in a virtual stadium and even speak with him in the park.
Football is steadily gaining traction in China with Nanjing seen as the sport’s Chinese capital.
Costing around 170 million euros, the 80,000m² MEP hopes to attract around four million visitors a year, the majority coming from within China.
