No player is bigger than the team. Unless, that is, that particular player is Lionel Messi. The FC Barcelona forward is about to lend his name to a new theme park in China.
The Messi Experience Park will apparently have over 20 attractions spread across more than 80,000 square metres. It will be built in Nankin, south east China, in partnership with audiovisual group Mediapro and television company Phoenix Group.
Opening in 2019, the park will “immerse visitors in Messi’s universe, combining the latest attractions with spaces to take part in the top sport”, according to the Argentinian-born football player’s management company.
The Forbes Rich List shows the football star, aged 29, was the second-highest paid sportsman in the world last year. His income of €72.6 million ($81.4 million) was just behind his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who earned €78.3 million. You’d almost think he was building a theme park for fun.
