2012, is recognized as the year of Dragon under the Chinese lunar calendar.  Also the symbol of China, itself, the dragon is considered to be especially fortuitous among the creatures of the Chinese zodiac, and the year of the Dragon is welcomed with spectacular celebrations by those of Chinese ancestry all over the world.

Right at the heart of the festivities, Mirage Entertainment is proud to have introduced Hong Kong’s first 3D mapping extravaganza, the “Countdown 2012” event, in East Point City for SHK Properties.  The high-tech, celebrity filled production was acclaimed as one of the top 3 most exciting New Year’s Eve events in Hong Kong by the local press.

Combining the Christmas season and a New Year’s countdown with fantastic environmental and futuristic imagery, the East Point City show was unique among other 3-D mapping events in its incorporation of a thematic storyline, as opposed to a simple exhibition of the latest projection technology.

The end result, judging by the thunderous applause and the rave reviews, was a rousing success – though there were significant challenges to be overcome along the way.  “3D mapping is not like projecting on a flat screen or wall, ” explains, Leonard Chau of Mirage Entertainment.  “Projecting images on a building façade requires a whole new level of precision and planning, introducing all kinds of additional technical difficulties into the process.  It was a big job, but we pulled it off!”  But then, pulling off the impossible – on time and on budget – has long been the Mirage way.
