Pipeline features a surfboard-style platform, and DarKoaster is the world’s first all-indoor straddle coaster.

SeaWorld Orlando‘s new Pipeline: The Surf Coaster and Busch Gardens Williamsburg’s new DarKoaster are both set to open next month.

In a video shared on social media, SeaWorld Orlando’s vice president of park operations Rob McNicholas said the surfboard-style coaster will officially open in May.

Pipeline, the theme parks seventh coaster, features a surfboard-style platform. The unique ride vehicles put riders in a standing position as the ‘seats’ rise and fall to mimic the sensation of riding on a wave.

Manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, the new coaster boasts five airtime moments, an innovative ‘wave curl’ inversion, and speeds of up to 60 mph.

Guests will feel like they are “really riding the waves, thanks to an inventive harness that keeps you secure while giving you unparalleled freedom of movement”, said SeaWorld Orlando.

DarKoaster, the world’s first all-indoor straddle coaster, is also launching next month at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, specifically on 19 May.

“DarKoaster will be an exciting and unique addition to our world-class lineup of coasters,” said Busch Gardens Williamsburg’s park president Kevin Lembke last year.

“As an indoor attraction, DarKoaster complements our collection of thrill rides and offers a new experience to enjoy throughout the year.”

Riders will travel on snowmobiles across 2,454 feet of track, enjoying maximum speeds of 36 mph and racing through total darkness.

Last month, SeaWorld Entertainment reported record financial results for the fourth quarter of 2022 and the full year.

In the fourth quarter, SeaWorld enjoyed record revenue, its second highest net income, and record adjusted EBITDA. In 2022, the company delivered record revenue, net income and adjusted EBITDA.

“We are pleased with the start to 2023 and looking forward – we are very excited about our plans with an exceptional line up of new rides, attractions, events and new and improved in-park venues and offerings,” said Marc Swanson, CEO of SeaWorld.
