New Six Flags parks, for kids and adventure seekers, coming to China

With $1.3 billion in revenue and 20 parks across the US, Mexico and Canada, Six Flags, the world’s biggest regional theme park company, is set to expand its international portfolio yet further. The company, along with its development partner, Riverside Investment Group Co. Ltd., has announced they will build Six Flags Kids World and Six Flags Adventure Park in China.

Six Flags Kids World will be the first park of its kind, as it will be designed specifically for families with younger children. It will be built adjacent to both Six Flags Zhejiang and Six Flags Chongqing.

Additionally, the new Six Flags Adventure Park will provide offering high-energy outdoor thrills. It will also adjoin the Six Flags Chongqing complex. The new attractions are set toSix Flags Zhejiang Garfield themed children's area open in 2020.

Both developments represent a departure for the 56 year old company, famed for its record-breaking rollercoasters and thrill-rides. Italian theme park Leolandia found success by a focussing on families with younger children. Similarly, adventure play is a current trend in visitor attractions. Merlin Entertainments recently announced it will open an adventure attraction of its own. Its £20m Bear Grylls Adventure attraction is currently in development at the NEC in Birmingham in the UK.

Six Flags Kids World will allow younger children and families the opportunity to enjoy recording-breaking roller coasters and attractions. However, they will do so on a junior-scale. The park will also enable familes to get up close to their favorite characters. There will also be richly-themed restaurants with kid-friendly menu options. Six Flags Kids World will complement Hurricane Harbor water park in Zhejiang, and the company’s portfolio of parks in Chongqing.

Six Flags Adventure Park is aimed at the outdoor sports and adventure play enthisiasts. Experiences will include motocross bicycle races, whitewater rafting, zip lining and rock climbing. Six Flags Adventure Park will be a thrilling new addition to the Chongqing entertainment lineup.
