Wraith of the Creek concept wins theme park design competition

The winners have been been announced of the 3rd annual Cornell Theme Park Design Competition. Thirty-three teams of students from universities across the United States entered the contest hosted by Cornell University in New York.

They were challenged to integrate new 3D LED technologies into an attraction package for a national theme park brand. Teams took their visions from “blue-sky” concept to budgeted and rendered pitch.

The competition was judged by Steve Alcorn of Alcorn McBride, Louis Alfieri from Raven Sun CreativeNathan Jones of WhiteWater and Stefan Lawrence from Rethink Leisure & Entertainment. Many other industry experts were involved as mentors.

Coming in first place was a team from the University of Texas at Austin with winning design for an attraction called Wraith of the Creek . The team will receive a $600 prize plus a $100 bonus for recruiting mentor Carolina Rocha of Walt Disney Imagineering. Pictured above is the second place Space Xploration: Lunar Ruins concept from the Penn State team, mentored by George Walker of Dynamic Attractions.

All designs were completed using sponsor HSI Immersive’s new 3D LED technology. Further mentors involved in the competition included representatives of Adirondack Studios, BRC Imagination Arts, Cavendish Kinetics, CAVU Designwerks, Dynamic Attractions, Great Coasters International, International Theme Park Services, Irvine Ondrey Engineering, LA ProPoint, Luce Group, Premier Rides, Sally Corporation, The Nassal Company, The Producers Group, Thinkwell Group, TRU Simulation + Training, Ubisoft, Universal Creative, upLIGHT, Walt Disney Imagineering and Warner Brothers.
