Three brand new Theme Parks are in the pipeline as tourist numbers to South-east Queensland grew by 8% in the last year.

Furthermore, reports The Brisbane Times,   a $15 million redevelopment of the city’s Mt Cootha Park is on the cards too.

The three new parks planned are:

Australian Legends World Theme Park

China’s Songcheng Performance has revealed full plans for a $600 million “Australian Legends World” theme park at Nerang. Sited on The Gold Coast, work could begin next year and should complete in 2018.

Furthermore, the Songcheng Group also plans planning a ferry connection.

Aussie World

On the Sunshine Coast, Aussie World has announced major expansion plans. These will involve the addition of new attractions and the first – the Bombora Bounce, Drop and Twist Tower – will open next month. In addition the facilities will also be enhanced.

An “Active Lifestyle” Theme Park

Also on the Sunshine Coast there are plans for an “active lifestyle” destination project on Steve Irwin Way, about 10 kilometres on the Brisbane side of Australia Zoo.

Sanad Capital,  a Dubai-based company’s Australian investment unit is backing the project. This is owned by Dubai conglomerate Najibi Group. The park will include a waterpark as part of the AUS$400 million ($297.3 million) attraction.

Waterpark design leader WhiteWater West will create the country’s biggest wave pool for the park. The project will boast the world’s biggest interactive aqua play structure, (2, 000 people). Furthermore,   Australia’s first slide-boarding area will feature,  adding a unique gaming-style interactive element to the waterpark.

The Sunshine Coast Council is currently assessing a detailed planning application.
