The Netherlands' Toverland theme park has announced plans to replace the Maximus’ Blitz Bahn bobsled ride with a new swinging bobsled attraction.
Per a press release, the new ride will keep the key features of Maximus' Blitz Bahn, including riders' ability to control their own speed.
To make way for the swinging bobsled, which will open in the winter season, Maximums' Blitz Bahn will close on 17 May.
The new ride is being developed in partnership with ETF Ride Systems, a leading ride designer and manufacturer.
"After 12 years of intensive use, the time has come to replace Maximus’ Blitz Bahn," said Roy Janssen, senior manager of engineering and projects at Toverland.
“Rodeling has always been an important part of Toverland, so we set out to find a replacement that would preserve the ride’s most popular elements.
"That led to the new swinging bobsled concept, which we developed together with ETF Ride Systems."

Toverland's new attraction will run on a conventional coaster track, as opposed to the Maximus’ Blitz Bahn vehicles, which race along curved bobsled chutes.
"The ride will feel different, with banked corners," Janssen said. "This means the track tilts inward on bends, making the ride both smoother and more intense."
On newly designed, steampunk-style ride vehicles, two guests will be seated in an expanded bobsled. "Increasing capacity was a key priority, so more guests can enjoy it," he added.
Toverland's expansion plan
Last month, Toverland announced a €98 million expansion plan to grow into a resort destination, including a hotel, the new swinging bobsled, and a new dark ride.
"Toverland is constantly evolving, as are the exact details of the various projects. We will therefore announce more information at a later date," a spokesperson for the park told blooloop.
This year, Toverland is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a unique 25-hour event taking place in July
