Xcaret plans new Riviera Maya water park. Experiencias Xcaret’s Suut Há water park is set to become the latest addition to the company’s range of parks and hotels in Mexico.

Officials from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources have approved the permits required for a new water park, to be built in Riviera Maya. Experiencias Xcaret submitted an environmental impact statement in March which has now been approved, reports Riviera Maya News.

Plans show the new water park, that will be built in Riviera Maya near the existing Xplor Park, will include a 40-metre high slide, swimming pools, canals and natural areas, spread over two hectares. It will involve an investment of around one billion peso and is likely to create 186 jobs.

Experiencias Xcaret is responsible for the Xcaret, Xel- Há, Xplor, Xoximilco, and Xenses resorts. The company is now set to build another adventure theme park – Xavage – in Cancun, investing £19 million in its development.

Xcaret is known for combining archaeology, culture and ecology with entertainment. Several Mexican traditions have been listed as ‘Intangible Cultural Heritages of Humanity’ by UNESCO and the parks seek to include rituals, oral traditions and festivities. The company also runs luxury tours, notably to Xenotes and Xichén.

Experiencias Xcaret plans to construct 12 hotels over the coming years. The first, La Casa de la Playa, is a 73-room boutique hotel for adults opening in summer of 2019. The 12 hotels will add a further 6,000 rooms to the region. A large convention centre and stadium (for 12,000) is also planned.
