Falcon’s Beyond Global, a fully integrated development enterprise for IP-driven parks, resorts, media and merchandise, announces the launch of Katmandu: EtherMerge, its inaugural mobile game.
The game is based on the Katmandu world from the original Falcon’s Beyond franchise and is the latest in a series of projects based on this theme. Katmandu Park recently opened in the Caribbean to much acclaim, and the company have also celebrated the launch of a themed online shop and a new two-player trading card game.
Katmandu: EtherMerge is a free-to-play mobile game, available on both iOS and Android. This is the first of a series of mobile games that are being produced by the company. In moving into this new market, Falcon’s Beyond has partnered with leading developer Epic Story Interactive, a subsidiary of Epic Story Media. This collaboration will expand the Falcon’s Beyond Katmandu IP into content and consumer products, as well as gaming.
Cecil D. Magpuri, CEO of Falcon’s Beyond, says: “Mobile games, such as Katmandu: EtherMerge, offer a thrilling opportunity to extend the play experience from our theme parks to engage consumers wherever they are, enabling a deeper connection to the Katmandu franchise. Supporting our proprietary 360° IP Expander model, we are pushing brand storytelling to the next level by creating an immersive entertainment experience.”
Fantastical gameplay
The new game is a merge-two puzzle game with storytelling derived from the Katmandu franchise. In Katmandu: EtherMerge players complete missions and progress through the game by matching and combining items – there are hundreds of fantastic items to merge and discover.
Characters from the franchise form a key part of the gameplay, with amazing creatures to battle and mysteries to solve. Players can level up by collecting experience points (XP), gems, and coins. Treasure chests and magical crystals which grow additional gems add to the gameplay.
The BeyondME platform will soon integrate with the game and will enable players to earn XP and trade it in for rewards. This platform connects with both real-world and digital experiences from Falcon’s Beyond and offers extensive personalisation options in addition to the loyalty programme.
Falcon’s Beyond Global recently appointed Simon Philips as president. Philips previously worked at Disney, Marvel and Moonbug Entertainment, and was a senior advisor to the Falcon’s Beyond board. He has helped shape the strategy for iconic brands such as Pixar, Star Wars, CoComelon, Pokémon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Yu-Gi-Oh.
