The movie Me and My Winter Games, has been billed as a celebration of Chinese animation, based on the mascots of the upcoming Beijing 2022 event.

The cartoon will also appeal to older audiences, utilising characters from classic Chinese animations including Calabash BrothersMonkey King, and Snow Kid.

Eighties cartoon Black Cat Detective will also make an appearance with its namesake character Sheriff Black Cat.

In the Boonie Cubs segment of the feature, a rose grown by young Vick plays an important role. Vick and his friends set out on an exciting adventure across the snow-covered Pine Tree Mountain with mascots Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon, to gift the flower to a Winter Olympic Games athlete.

Motions found in Winter Olympic events such as bobsleigh, ice hockey, figure skating and skiing, have been interwoven into the animation, giving audiences short insights into the competitions. The entertaining family film also highlights the Olympic Games values, such as bravery and unity, as Vick and his companions work together in a race against time.

The Boomie Bear necessities

The appearance of Boonie Cubs characters in an anticipated Winter Olympic Games movie is one indication of the series’ popularity amongst Chinese audiences. As an expansion of the original Boonie Bears IP, Fantawild has gone on to create other versions of the characters, catering to different demographics including Boonie Bears: The AdventurersMonster Plan and most recently, Boonie Squad.

The latest instalment, Boonie BearsBack to Earth, will be released in time for the Chinese New Year on 1 February 2022.

To date, seven Boonie Bears family movies have grossed over 3 billion RMB (roughly $474 million) at the Chinese box office, whilst generating appreciation from an international fanbase.

The wild success of the Boonie Bears IP has seen Fantawild translate the popular animation for the tourism sector, creating further exposure for the cartoon franchise. The first Boonie Bears-themed hotel debuted at Tianjin, China in 2021, with numerous Boonie Bears-themed amusement and water parks currently being designed and developed.

Fantawild has future plans to continue promoting Chinese culture internationally in the fields of entertainment and culture, with Boonie Bears as a core ingredient.

Fantawild Holdings last year announced the opening of Glorious Orient, a high-tech theme park themed around China’s recent history in the city of Ganzhou.
