Efteling in the Netherlands has launched its new family-friendly drop tower attraction, named Hooghmoed.

Opened on 1 May, the new Hooghmoed ride features the same theming as the Baron 1898 dive coaster.

Fons Jurgens, CEO of Efteling, said: "By adding Hooghmoed to the area around Baron 1898, we are continuing to bring our vision to life: creating themed worlds where guests can truly step into another reality.

"Hooghmoed also contributes to a broader range of attractions for younger thrill-seekers in this area of Efteling."

The storyline for Baron 1898 focuses on Baron Gustave Hooghmoed, who wants to extract as much gold as possible from the mines. In the new Hooghmoed attraction, guests take on the role of the Baron's chimney sweeps.

The gold smeltery-inspired ride features a 14.5-metre-high chimney and three drop towers, each 12 metres tall. Every tower has a capacity of 10 people, allowing 30 guests per ride.

The maximum drop height on Hooghmoed is six metres, and the attraction also uses effects such as sound, mist and smoke.

Per a press release, Hooghmoed is the first thrilling attraction at Efteling for children who are at least 90 centimetres tall. They must be accompanied by someone at least 130 centimetres tall, and aged 16 or older.

Efteling recently announced strong results for 2025, which it has attributed to the continued appeal of the Danse Macabre dark ride, and the opening of the new Efteling Grand Hotel and the Princess and the Pea fairytale.

Since opening in 1952, Efteling has grown to become one of Europe's biggest theme parks, welcoming a total of more than 130 million visitors.
