Guests at teamLab Phenomena will become one with the environment

teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi has unveiled its enormous digital artworks ahead of the opening next week (18 April).

Located in the Saadiyat Cultural District in a purpose-built, 17,000-square-metre building, the new teamLab will provide an immersive art experience.

It was developed by Abu Dhabi’s culture and tourism department (DCT Abu Dhabi), Tokyo-based art collective teamLab, and Miral.

teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is based on teamLab’s new concept of environmental phenomena.

Large-scale artworks at the new venue do not exist independently. Instead, the environment creates phenomena, which become the works.

Guests at teamLab Phenomena will get to immerse themselves in the artworks and become one with the environment.

Highlights include:

  • Morphing Continuum, a living universe dependent on a spatial and temporal existence;
  • Spontaneous Order in Chaos, where spontaneous order continuously emerges on its own by the interactions of strokes of colour;
  • Massless Amorphous Sculpture, a huge sculpture created by the order of energy generated by the phenomena of a unique environment.

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, said teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi “will offer an immersive journey that sparks infinite curiosity and imagination in all who visit”.

“At the intersection of art, technology, and nature, it will create a world of limitless wonder and creativity,” he said.

As above, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is part of the Saadiyat Cultural District, set to be the world’s largest collection of world-class cultural and educational institutions.

The district is already home to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and will soon include the Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, and a Guggenheim museum.

In more news, UBS Digital Art Museum is being developed in Hamburg, Germany with a permanent teamLab Borderless exhibition.

The new attraction will be Europe’s largest museum for digital and immersive art.
